Janie Higgins Obituary

Janie Walker Higgins, 93, of Bostic, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Fairhaven of Bostic.  A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Walker and Estelle Proctor Walker and widow of the late William Boyd "Billy" Higgins.  Mrs. Higgins was a graduate of Ellenboro High School and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bostic where she had served as President of WMU and was a past GA leader.  She was very proud to have worked in voter registration for the Rutherford County Board of Elections and in her youth she worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone.  She was also preceded in death by brothers, P.D. Walker, Herbert Walker and Bobby Walker.

Janie was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

Survivors include her children, Mirinda Higgins Barnette and husband Ray; Mary Rose Higgins; Julie Higgins Harrill and husband Mitch and son, Neil Higgins, all of Bostic; brothers, Tom Walker and wife LaVerne of Forest City and Joel Walker and wife Catherine of Rutherfordton; grandchildren, Katie Collins, Brent Barnette, Billy Harrill, Sally Harrill, Molly Higgins and Sarah Higgins and great grandchildren, Pacey and Hank Collins, and Corynn and Caroline Harrill.

 

The funeral service will be held four o'clock Monday, March 5, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Bostic with Reverend Clay Earle officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bostic Baptist Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:45 pm at the church on Monday.  The Padgett & King Mortuary is serving the Higgins family.  An online guest registry is available at www.padgettking.com
