Janet Kay Hill Obituary

Janet Kay Hill, age 83 of Forest City died Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at her home.  Janet was born on October 30, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska and was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick Schlemmer and Irene Dodds Schlemmer.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, and she was the retired director of the Salvation Army Re-Sale store in Forest City.

Our love story began in 1988 when we married on St. Valentine’s Day. Two months later we moved to North Carolina where we have been ever since. Janet was content to be a housewife a great neighbor and a friend to anyone who met her. This changed in 1997 when the Salvation Army needed someone to head up the Christmas Cheer program. Not only did she do a great job, it flourished. Wanting to do more, Janet set up the thrift store which helped fund all of the social service programs and Christmas Cheer. Janet retired in 2010 to stay home and take care of all the animals that we had adopted over the years. We had 4 dogs and 5 cats at that time and boy was our house filled with love. Janet’s health began to decline when in 2020 she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Four years of chemotherapy took a toll on Janet’s health. During this same time frame Janet had a bout of RSV and a COPD attack on her lungs which required hospital stays for both illnesses. Through all these bouts with sickness she never complained, she took strength of family love.

On Father’s Day this year she was told that her aortic aneurysm had grown to a dangerous level. As a family we turned to God and let him take care of Janet until she passed. Janet began wearing the Miraculous Medal of the Blessed Virgin Mary daily and through her intersession Janet received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church.

Janet is greatly missed but we take solace that she has achieved her heavenly reward and is safely in the hands of God Almighty.

Survivors include her husband Charles H. Hill of the home, her son, Weston Clatanoff and wife Sandy of Mooresboro,  her daughter, Vicky Stull of Nebraska, her grandson, Chase Clatanoff, step-son, Brian Hill and wife Michelle of California, and step-daughter, Janet Mason of Chicago, IL, and her step-grandchildren, Andrew Hill, Evan Hill, Isabelle Hill, Shannon Thomas, and Catlin Mason.
