James (Jim) Shepard, age 84, of Sweetwater, passed away 2:24 A.M. Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Parkwest Medical Center. Member of V.F.W. Goldstar Post 5156 & American Legion 106. During his time in the U.S. Army, Jim served The Enewetak Atoll, in the Marshall Islands, involved in the testing of Atomic Bombs.
He was preceded in death by parents, Jessie & Irene Hastings Shepard, sisters, Jane Jones, Gail Yelton & Betty Bell, brother, Bobby Shepard.
Survivors, companion, caregiver and special friend for 20 years, Geneva Underwood, daughters, Debbie (Carl) Krodinger, Lisa (Lance) Tresch, Granddaughters, Adrienne & Lacey, Great-granddaughter, Syndey, Sisters, Ellen Hudson, Phyllis Shepard, Several nieces & nephews, Geneva’s family, children, Rita (Danny) Summitt, Daryl (Candace) Underwood, Granddaughters, Miranda, Marissa & Olivia, 4 great-grandchildren,
Military service will be conducted at 5 o'clock Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, provided by V.F.W. Post 5156 & American Legion 106 and the closing prayer by Rev. Tommy Self. Family will receive friends 4-5 P.M. Thursday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville, Tennessee.
The Graveside service will be at 3 o'clock Friday, May 6, 2022, at First Broad Baptist Cemetery, Bostic, North Carolina. There will be a viewing at the church from 2 until 3 o'clock prior to the service.
