James Walter Edmonds, age 85 of Rutherfordton, died Saturday, November 7, 2020 at his residence. James was born on November 22, 1934 in Greenwood, South Carolina and was a son of the late Charlie and Omar Newton Edmonds. James served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he worked for Ford Motor Company and later was an agent for National Life Insurance Company. James also worked for Roger's in Shelby where he was a top mechanic. In the early 1980s, James and his wife moved from California to Rutherford County where they have made their home and raised their family.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dale Ann Edmonds, four children, Doyle Edmonds, Joshua Edmonds, Marilyn Horne and Betty Jo Henson. There are also seven grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private service at a later date with military honors.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Hospice of The Carolina Foothills, Post Office Box 146, Forest City, North Carolina 28043.
