James E. Davis, Sr., age 84 of Forest City, North Carolina died Thursday, September 9, 2021, at his home after an extended illness.
Born March 14, 1937, in Rutherford County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Carlyle D. Davis and Clara Sue Shytle Davis.
He was a faithful member of the Bethany Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, and served on various committees in the church. He worked for Doncaster Company for several years until taking a position with the Department of Corrections in 1979. James worked for the DOC for many years until his retirement, at the rank of Sergeant. James was a founding member of S.D.O. Fire Department where he had served as a fireman and on the Board of Directors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Marie Hollifield Davis, a brother, Dwight Davis, and a sister, Martha Humphries.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Ernestine Roach Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Nikki Davis of Forest City; a daughter, Pamela Davis of Forest City; a brother, Max Davis and his wife Georgia of Kingsport, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jennifer Davis, Lauren Wilson and husband, Joe. Nathan Bradley and Isaiah Bradley, and two great-grandchildren, Evan James Wilson and Brison Wilson.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 4 o’clock at the Bethany Baptist Church with the Reverend Chris Fox officiating. A private burial will be held for the family in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 6 o’clock in the sanctuary at Bethany Baptist Church.
For the safety of those attending, the family has requested that masks be worn and social distancing be observed at both the visitation and memorial service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in James’ memory may be made to the North Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief Fund. Please make checks payable to Bethany Baptist Church, 760 Bethany Church Road, Forest City, North and note in the check memo for James Davis.
