James Arnold Smith

James Arnold Smith, 88, of Oak Grove Church Road, Ellenboro, died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home.  A native of Forest City, he was the son of the late Ralph Ansel Smith and Thelma Ball Smith and widower of Shirley Ann Snyder Smith.  He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, Forest City.   He was an avid UNC Tarheels fan; enjoyed many sports, especially golf and racing and also had previously coached little league baseball.

Survivors include his son, Arnold Smith and  daughters, Sheila Strickland and husband Bill and Donna Huntley and husband Barry, all of Ellenboro, NC, a sister, Polly Bradshaw of Cliffside, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Whitaker, Kyle Huntley and wife Candy, Jennifer Tate and husband Michael, Casey Strickland, Marcy Brooks, and Meghan Smith; great grandchildren, Reagan, Rock, Betty, Addison, Colt, Anna, Henry, Caden, Brittany, Michael, and Javari and great great grandchildren, Corry Lee and Ryland.

The funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Rohm officiating.  Interment will follow in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm Tuesday in the sanctuary of the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
