Jackie Carroll Potter, 69, Of Mooresboro died Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Forest City. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Lester Eugene Potter and Mary Elizabeth Ruppe Potter. He was a minister and an amazing drummer and musician for many years. Jackie began playing the drums at the age of eight and began playing with Sounds of Time. During his time as a musician, he played with The Marshall Tucker Band and was involved with producing for many other bands. He also spent time as a broadcasting instructor with Cleveland Community College and in broadcasting with NBC Channel 36 and with the Christian Network WGGS. Jackie was a member of Christian Fellowship Church, Ellenboro.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah L. Potter of the home; a son, Zach Potter of Greenville, SC; daughters, Christina Simmons (Darnell) of Mooresboro, NC, Rebekah Scoggins (Joseph) of Forest City, NC, Melissa Potter-Shiflet (Grant) of Forest City, NC and Holly Scoggins (Justin) of Lincolnton, NC; a brother, Charles Webb of Polkville, NC, and a sister, Wanda McDaniel of Mooresboro, NC and also his grandchildren, Jaylon, Dacia and Alayna Simmons, Leah and Madelyn Hodge, Graham Scoggins, and Benaiah, Uri and Zeta Scoggins.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Friday, April 3, 2026 in the Christian Fellowship Church with pastors Justin Scoggins, Brent Powell, and Frank Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at The Padgett & King Mortuary.
