Jackie Scruggs Henson age 91 of Forest City died Thursday, March 26, 2026, at her home. She was born on February 4, 1935, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Growing up in Chesnee, she was raised by her grandparents, the late George Logan Scruggs and Clara Blanton Scruggs, and was a daughter of the late Lemuel Clingman Greene, Jr. and Rubye Scruggs.

Jackie was a graduate of Chesnee High School and Robinson’s Business School.  She worked for the Chesnee Telephone Company until the birth of her daughter, Susie, at which time she stayed at home to raise her. When Susie was seven, Jackie went back to work at CHASE High School in the office where she remained until her retirement after 25 years’ service. She enjoyed her time at CHASE where she had the privilege of working with five different Principals. Whether working in the office, selling tickets or working ball games, she was always there and willing.     

Jackie was a member of Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women’s Circle.  She also enjoyed membership in the Ladies Auxiliary of Gideons International, Rutherfordton Camp, the Burnt Chimney Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, Honorary member of the FFA, CHASE High School Chapter, and the Rutherford County Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, James Grose Henson who died in 2004.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan C. Henson of the home, her brother, Alan Lawter of Cowpens, South Carolina.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Monday, March 30, 2026, in the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Donald Scofield.  Interment will follow at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock on Sunday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
