Hugh Edward Street, 72, of Bostic, NC, died Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Atrium Health- Cleveland, in Shelby. A native of Rutherford county, he was the son of the late Hicks Edward Street and Mozelle Lancaster Street. Hugh retired after thirty-five years of service as Service Manager for Cowan Tire & Battery and later worked for Sparkie’s Cadillac Oldsmobile and Discount Tire. Hugh was a former member of Cherry Mountain Fire Department having served as Chief; a Board member for the Carolina Clinchfield Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society, and a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Bostic where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and other roles. Hugh loved taking railroad pictures, especially of the Clinchfield Railroad. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Piercy.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Charlotte Melton Street of the home; sister, Sandra Piercy of Belmont, NC, sister-in-law, Shelba Sinclair of Bostic, NC; nephews and a niece, Jason Coker, Emily Padgett (Josh), Eddie Piercy (Michelle), and Kenny Piercy (Samantha); great nieces and nephews, Garrett, Clayton and Dawson Padgett, Chloe, Clare, Colton, and Cagney Coker, and Rhebalee Piercy.
The funeral service will be held 3 pm Monday, August 1st, in the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Rev. Paul White, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 pm on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 801 Mt. Lebanon Church Rd, Bostic, NC 28018.
