Hilda Smith (Moore) Proctor

Hilda Smith Proctor, age 95, of Spindale, died Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City.  Hilda was born on July 12, 1927 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Henry Lee Moore and Mary Ella Goode Moore. 

Hilda was a graduate of R-S Central High School and a longtime and faithful member of the Florence Baptist Church.  She was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the Choir, had served on the Bereavement committee providing meals to families and participated in the Senior Adult Group.  She worked for 25 years at radio station WBBO as their bookkeeper. Hilda was a long time resident of Windover Drive in Forest City before moving to Sparks Crossing.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Coy Clinton Smith, her second husband Charles David Proctor as well as her seven siblings.   

Survivors include her son, Tim Smith (Penny) of Morganton, her daughter, Mary Metcalf (Larry) of Forest City, her grandson, John Metcalf (Jordyn) of Mooresville, and two great-grandchildren, Mason Graham Metcalf and Ella Rose Metcalf. 

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Tonya Garrison and the Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.  Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.  The family will have visitation from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the service Tuesday at the mortuary.

The family is at the home of her daughter on Spring Lake Drive, Forest City.
