Glenda Scruggs Obituary

Glenda Brooks Scruggs, age 74, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Fairhaven Home in Bostic where she was a resident.  She was formerly a longtime resident of the Hollis Community. 

 

Glenda was born on May 8, 1948, in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Joseph Bunyan Brooks and Vernie Marshall Brooks Waters.  She was a graduate of East Rutherford High School and she attended Isothermal Community College.  Glenda was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, was a former Choir member and she played piano.  She retired with thirty-eight year’s service from Isothermal Community College where she was Secretary to the President. 

Glenda loved her family and spending time with them.  She was a devoted and faithful wife, and a loving mother and grandmother.  Supporting her children and grandchildren was one of life’s greatest joys.  She shared a close bond with her siblings as well as her husband’s family which was dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert Gilmer Scruggs in 2016, her brothers, Wayne Brooks, Donald Brooks, and Morris Brooks, and sisters, Bernice Martin, Doris Brooks, and Joyce Horton.

Survivors include her three daughters, Kristy Scruggs Holland and husband Billy of Forest City, Heather Scruggs Church and husband, Josh of Gaffney, South Carolina, and Amanda Scruggs of Rutherfordton, her three grandchildren, Lucy and Cade Holland, and Brody Church, her sister, Maxine Marlowe of Bostic, sisters- in -law, Diana Brooks of Forest City, Martena Poteat and husband Milton of Carrolton, Ga, Freida Cole and husband Danny of Greenville, South Carolina, brothers-in-law, Charles Scruggs and wife Marilee of Forest City, Roger Scruggs and wife Brenda of Shelby, and Randy Scruggs and wife Tricia of Bostic.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Big Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Scott and Reverend Dr. Jim Richardson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 on Tuesday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
