George Whisnant Obituary


George Lemuel "Lem" Whisnant passed away at Rutherford Regional Medical Center on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the age of 78.  He was born in St. Petersburg, Florida  to George Crawford Whisnant and Addie Katherine Summey Whisnant and spent most of his life in Rutherford County, NC.  He graduated from R-S Central High School and attended Pfeiffer University and Isothermal Community College. 

He  was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rutherfordton, NC.  For the last three years he lived at Henderson Care Center in Forest  City, NC, where the staff provided a caring and loving home atmosphere.  The family wishes to thank the staff for their devoted care.
Lem was preceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Summey Whisnant.  He is survived by sisters-in-law, Miriam Whisnant of Columbia, SC and Jean Whisnant of Whittier, NC; niece, Phoebe Whisnant and husband , Mike Hodgin of Decatur; Georgia; niece, Bonnie Whisnant and nephew, George Whisnant of Whittier, NC.
Interment will be private at Cool Springs Cemetery, Forest City. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 264 North Main Street, Rutherfordton, NC or a charity of one's choice.
