Gary DeWeese Obituary

Gary Dale DeWeese, age 73 of Ellenboro, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at his residence.  Gary was born on June 22, 1947 in Waynesville, North Carolina and was a son of the late Marvin Edgar DeWeese and Viola Elizabeth Overman DeWeese. 

He was a member of Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church in Polkville and worked for many years as a Paramedic with Cleveland County EMS.  He was a  graduate of Cecil’s Business College and a veteran of the United States Navy.  During his career as a paramedic, he served in many leadership roles including as Chief of the former Volunteer Lifesaving and Rescue in Rutherfordton.  Gary also served as an instructor, having taught many EMT classes where he trained personnel entering the field of emergency service work.  He was also a member of Sandy Mush Fire Department.  

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mac Arthur DeWeese and a sister, Geraldine Putnam.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susie DeWeese of the home, his son, Jeffrey Alan DeWeese of Chesnee, South Carolina, and a sister, Linda Woody and husband Bill of Waynesville.

A graveside service will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 226, Lawndale, NC with Pastor Billy Boone officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.  Masks and social distancing are requested for the safety of all those attending.
