Faye B. Denning of Rutherfordton died June 21, 2021, at Fairhaven in Forest City. She was the daughter of the late Hazel Bailey Dickerson and was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Scott Denning, her brother, Richard Dickerson, and grandparents, James, and Lydia Bailey, with whom she was close. Faye was the widow of Gene Denning, who died in 1975.
Faye was born on July 21, 1930, in Raleigh, NC. She was educated in the Raleigh School System, attended Isothermal Community College, was a graduate of Gardner Webb University, and received her master’s degree in education from Converse College. Faye was a retired school teacher in the Rutherford County School System, having taught at East Rutherford High School for twenty years.
After retiring, Faye enjoyed working at Yokefellow and the soup kitchen. Faye loved her church, her friends, and her family. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, ACC basketball, and caring for her yard and gardens.
The Denning family moved to Rutherford County in 1961 and joined the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church in 1962. Faye received an Honorary Life Membership Award from the Presbyterian Women in 2009.
Faye is survived by her son, Dr. Steve Denning (Judy) of Canton, Ohio, daughter-in-law, Andrea Denning of Spindale, grandsons, Christopher Denning of Long Island City, NY, and Kurt Denning of Canton, Ohio, and special neighbor, Wayne Jackson of Rutherfordton.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mirinda Jackson for her care and compassion, Dr. Don Scofield for his pastoral care, and to Russell Knight and Jim Masek for their hospitality and friendship.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Don Scofield. Visitation will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in Faye’s memory be made to Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church. 252 North Washington Street, Rutherfordton, North Carolina 28139.
