Eula “Pete” McMahan Obituary

Eula “Pete” Lancaster McMahan, age 84 of Mooresboro died Saturday, February 11, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.  She was born on March 17, 1938 in York County, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Carvel McFadden and Julia Thrower. 

Pete, as she was known to her family and friends earned a business degree from Spartanburg Methodist Women’s College.  She proudly worked as an owner and operator of her own business, The House of Awards in Forest City until her retirement.  She also worked as Secretary to the North Carolina Attorney General.  Her work ethic, business instinct, and personality made her a successful business leader. 

She was a devout Christian, a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother.  She always knew her family was her greatest accomplishment in life. 

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse Lancaster and her second husband, Donald McMahan. 

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Lancaster Smith and husband Calvin (Skip) Smith of Spartanburg, Kristy Lancaster Carlisle and husband Shane Carlisle of Mooresboro, her granddaughter, Jessica (Jesse) Smith Hayes and husband Kyle Hayes,  grandson, Mason Smith and wife Hope Smith, Cutler Shaw, and Tristan Carlisle, and granddaughter, Jetta Shaw, as well as great-granddaughters, Makynlee (Mak) Hayes and Emma Smith and Emery Smith.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Saturday, February 18, 2023 in The Padgett and King Chapel.  Interment will follow the service at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the service.
