Elizabeth Weathers Harrill

Elizabeth “Libby” Weathers Harrill, age 78, died peacefully on January 5, 2023. She was a native of Forest City, NC and daughter of the late Anabel Ware Weathers and James Flay Weathers.  Libby is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years James Larry Harrill, Sr.; loving children Anna Harrill McCoy (husband John T.) and James “Jay” Larry Harrill, Jr. (wife April), both of Charlotte, NC; her five adoring grandchildren: Avery Baucom Harrill, Addison Gamble Harrill, John Harrill McCoy, Julian Weathers McCoy, and Piper Grace McCoy; and her brother James Flay Weathers (wife Dianne) of Forest City, NC.  Libby was preceded in death by her brother John Ware Weathers (wife Janie Benson) of Chapel Hill, NC.  Libby loved her family and friends and cherished every minute with them. 

Libby attended Brenau University before transferring to Mars Hill University where she earned a B.A. in Education in 1966. Shortly after graduation, Libby moved to Charlotte, NC and started her 28-year career as an elementary school teacher. She was passionate about teaching and always cherished her many fond memories of her students.  Libby and Larry were married in 1969 and moved back to Forest City in 1976. 

In Forest City, Libby was a member of the First Baptist Church and Florence Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed community involvement.  Libby was an active member of the Women’s Mission Unit, her Sunday school class (“The Open Door”), and Wednesday morning Bible study group (“The Froggys”).  She also enjoyed being a member of her church choir, teaching Sunday school, and volunteering at the Rutherford Hospital.  Always an avid reader, she could be counted on to be one of the first in line at the library to check out the latest novel.  Libby and Larry enjoyed traveling together and spending time in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Seabrook Island, SC, and Naples, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 o’clock on Wednesday, January 11th at the First Baptist Church, 211 West Main Street, Forest City with the Reverend Dr. Garin Hill and the Reverend Diane Nelson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:30am to 10:45am in the Family Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church.  Interment will be at the Cool Springs Cemetery, 382 West Main Street, Forest City, NC.
