Cal Thompson
Edward Calton “Cal” Thompson III, 56, of Forest City, died Sunday, June 14, 2020 at his home. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of Edward Calton Thompson, Jr. of Mooresboro and Suzette Collins-Tielman of Forest City.
Cal was a 1982 graduate of East Rutherford High School where he played football, he also attended Isothermal Community College and Carson-Newman College, and was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He was an avid trout fisherman, hunter, loved music of all types, was an avid Carolina Panthers fan. He enjoyed times with his son, Calton when they would fish and hunt together.
He worked for many years at the family restaurant, Ron & Eddy’s in Forest City and for Collins Metal Company.
Cal was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa Robbins Thompson and step-father, Ben Tielman.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his son, Edward Calton Thompson IV of Forest City; step-daughters, Sarah Robbins of Ellenboro, and Laura Robbins of Rutherfordton; and a sister, Anna Thompson of Mt. Holly. There are also a number of aunts, uncles and friends that loved Cal.
Graveside services will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday, June 18, 2020, in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Neil Perry officiating.
The body will lie in state from 1 until 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of The Padgett & King Mortuary for those who wish to view and pay their respects.
