Edith Mauney Lawing age 94 of Eastwood Village died Sunday, June 19, 2022, in the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Born on April 18, 1928, in Cleveland County, North Carolina she was the fourth of eight children of the late Charles Winslow Mauney and Fannie Belle Dedmon Mauney and was preceded in death by her three sisters and four brothers. Edith had resided in the Forest City area since 1958 having worked for Southern Bell for over twenty-five years, was a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she had served as Financial Secretary, taught Sunday School and was involved in the United Methodist Women.
She was also preceded by her husband of fifty-eight years, Samuel L. “Sammy” Lawing, Jr. in 2016 and a grandson, Jonathan Lawing.
Surviving are her son, Eric Lawing and wife, Patti of Forest City, a granddaughter, Sarah Lawing Wilson and husband, Derek, and a great-granddaughter on the way in July, Savannah Grace Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 2 o’clock at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with the Reverend Keys Pendleton officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
