Eddy Thompson Obituary

Edward Calton “Eddy” Thompson, II, age 79 of Ellenboro died Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home.  Eddy was born on August 10, 1945, and was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County and the son of the late Edward Calton Thompson and Marguerite Huntley Thompson.

Eddy was raised in the First Baptist Church of Forest City and was a graduate of East Rutherford High School.  Eddy was a fixture in downtown Forest City where he worked with his parents at Ron and Eddy’s Restaurant which opened in 1945.  He was generous and kind to everyone he met, and he was genuinely concerned about others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Cal Thompson in 2020 and his daughter-in-law, Melissa Thompson.

Survivors include his fiancée, Megan O’Brien of the home, his daughter, Anna Thompson of Forest City, his grandson, Calton Thompson (Madison) of Forest City, his step-son, Jarred Kern (Marla) of Ellenboro as well as many cousins, friends and his beloved dog, Pearl.

A service from the graveside will be held at 2 o’clock on Friday, May 23, 2025, in the Cool Springs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock Thursday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
