E.L. Whiteside

Mr. E. L. Whiteside, age 90 of Spindale died Monday, June 13, 2022, at Fairhaven Home in Forest City. E.L. was born on June 18, 1931, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Garland and Iva Sue Womack Whiteside.

He was retired from Stonecutter Mills Corporation where he was a truck driver with 43 year’s service, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Missionary Wesleyan Church. E.L. served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart for Military Merit. 

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Max Whiteside.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lois Johnson Whiteside, his sons, Jimmy Whiteside and wife Sheila, and Jerry Whiteside all of Rutherfordton, his sister, Lillie Belle Biggerstaff of Rutherfordton, his grandson, Justin Whiteside and wife Becky of Ocean Isle, North Carolina and two great-grandchildren, Walker, and Maddox Whiteside.

The funeral service will be held at Missionary Wesleyan Church on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 11 o’clock with the Reverend Jason Madison officiating. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary of the church from 10 until 11 o’clock prior to the service.
