Dr. Anita Price Davis (March 8, 1943-June 27,2021) of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Ellenboro, North Carolina was the wife of Buren Lee Davis for 59 years; daughter of Nell Price Burns and Arthur Fred Price (Gold Star Serviceman); step-daughter of Robert Ewart Burns; mother of Robert Eric Davis (Stacey); and grandmother of Evan and Ellie Davis.
Memorial services will be held at Fernwood Baptist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina on July 1, 2021, at 11:00 am with the family receiving friends prior to the service from 10:00 - 10:45 am.
Graveside services will follow at Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, North Carolina at 2:30 p.m.
Anita was Valedictorian of Ellenboro High School (1960). She received her B.S. (with honors 1963) and M.Ed. (with honors 1965) from Appalachian State University. Anita obtained her doctorate from Duke University (1971).
Anita taught at Converse College for 36 years (1969-2005), served as department chair, and retired to write and to enjoy her grandchildren. She received Converse's highest teaching rank: The Charles A. Dana Professor of Education Emerita. She was honored as a teacher by the Governor of South Carolina (1994) and received the Kathryne Amelia Brown Award for outstanding teaching at Converse.
Anita has written/co-written more than 200 books and articles. As a tribute to her father killed in World War II, she wrote Real Heroes: Rutherford County Men Who Made the Supreme Sacrifice.
Anita taught the Ruth Sunday School Class at Fernwood Baptist Church for 36 years. She loved her church, family, friends, hometown, and students.
Sweet Anita positively touched generations through her teaching, writing, and kindness.
