Dorris Walker Smith, age 94 of Providence Road, Forest City died Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Hospice House in Forest City.  Dorris was born in Rutherford County on July 25, 1929, and was a daughter of the late Edmon S. Walker, Sr., and Mattie Mae Trout Walker.  A lifelong resident of the county, she was raised in the Providence Methodist Church and in recent years attended Avondale Methodist Church and was also active in the Caroleen Methodist Church.    

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. “Bill” Smith, her sons, Thomas Lynn Smith, and Terry Michael Smith as well as her brothers, Ted Walker, Gene Walker, E.S. Walker, Jr. and sisters, Margaret Moore, Eloise Keeter and Sarah Clayton.

Survivors include her sons, Charles William Smith and wife Teresa Hunt Smith of Forest City, Rickie Gene Smith and wife Ann Lainer Smith of Mooresboro, Timmie Lee Smith and wife Becky Towery Smith of Forest City, and her daughter-in-law, Debra Burgess Smith of Forest City.  There are also seven grandchildren, Jeff Herman-Smith, Chad Smith, Travis Smith, Brian Smith, Christy Smith, Jessica Smith Winn, Lindsey Smith, as well as great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Michael Harrill and the Reverend Robert Hodges officiating.  Interment will follow at Providence Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening at Padgett and King.  The family will be at the home of Charles and Teresa Smith.
