Dorothy “Dot” Butler Lee, age 95 of Ellenboro died Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Accordius Health in Rutherfordton. Dorothy was born on June 30, 1927 in Rutherford County and was the daughter of the late Jennings Long and Winnie Fred Morehead Butler. She was one of the oldest members of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro where she taught Sunday School and worked in the nursery for over 30 years. Dorothy loved her church, God, and her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cleaning, and loved her animals, mainly her special cat Thimble, and Major her German Shepard.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Howard Nelson Lee who died in 2007, her brothers Jim Butler and Pete Butler, and a sister Betty Greene.
Survivors include her son, Jennings Lee and wife Deborah of Concord, NC; a daughter, Melisa Greene and husband Tommy of Ellenboro; sisters, Margaret Lowery and Barbara Dycus; grandchildren, Brandon Jennings Lee, Taylor Lee Greene and wife Alison, Taylor Kircher, Cody Kircher, and Seth Kircher and great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Smith, Graham Howard Greene and Sadie Grace Kircher.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at Bethel Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Mike Sepaugh and Dorothy’s beloved son-in-law Tommy Greene. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church Family Life Center.
