Dorothy Jean Thrift Robbins, age ninety years, of Arbor Landing, Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center in Little River, South Carolina.
Dorothy was born on January 17, 1931 in Cliffside, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Burley Lee Thrift and Carrie Mae Green Thrift. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Robbins on August 3, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lester and Jack Thrift and sisters Ocie Lee Thrift Honeycutt and Janie Thrift Merritt.
Dorothy was a graduate of Cool Springs High School in Forest City, North Carolina where she was valedictorian of her class. The senior yearbook called her “studious and brilliant with a sweet disposition and charming personality”. Dorothy was successful with her career in banking institutions in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she and her husband Kenneth made their home. At the time of her retirement, Dorothy was Assistant Secretary / Treasurer of Home Federal Savings and Loan in Charlotte.
Dorothy served as president of the Financial Women International in the Metro Charlotte Chapter and was also Woman of the year in that same organization. She was cited for her dedication and contributions.
Dorothy had many friends through her employment, church, choir, garden club, and neighborhood. She and Kenneth took great pride in their home, beautiful yard, and garden. Dorothy and Kenneth had a special family named Francois, Christian and Cobey. They were great parents to their beloved puppies.
Survivors include her nieces and nephew, Jerry Thrift (Patsy) of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, Joyce Honeycutt Spurlin (Calvin) of Forest City, Phyllis Thrift Harrill (Mike) of Shelby, Sharon Mason Spencer (Garrett) of Spartanburg, Gail Mason Kennedy (Chris) of Greer, South Carolina as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A service from the graveside will be conducted at 2 o'clock on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Tonya Garrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 prior to the service at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
