Doris Dennis Obituary

Doris N. Dennis, age 97 of Forest City, died January 25, 2021 at Oakland Living Center.  She was born May 11, 1923 in Deemer, MS, the daughter of the late Edd Allan and Lallah Nowell. 

Doris, better known as “Dee,” attended high school and junior college in Mississippi.  She lived in Atlanta most of her adult life.  She and her identical twin sister Dorothy were the first twins to be hired as a stewardess by Delta Airlines.  Dee also worked for the federal government for 30 years.  Her career included a special assignment with the American Consulate in Antwerp, Belgium and with the Army in Frankfurt, Germany. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Stoney Dennis and Paul E. Wallace, Sr, her siblings, Mozelle Stewart, Victor, Wallace and Willis Nowell as well as her daughter-in-law, Dera Jones Wallace.

Dee is survived by her twin sister, Dorothy Hulbert of Chattanooga, TN, and her two children, Diane Griffin and husband Jimmy of Rutherfordton, and, Paul E. Wallace, Jr of Winston, GA,  Additional survivors include granddaughters, Page Dilliston (Mike) of West Palm Beach, FL, and Day Poling (Jeff) of Sharpsburg, GA, her grandsons, Jay Griffin of Raleigh, Jon Knox Griffin of Portland, OR and Jordan Griffin of Raleigh, NC, and one step-grandson, Stoney Dennis of Douglasville, GA, as well as great-grandchildren, Jacob Dilliston and Savannah, Landan, and Madelyn Poling.  There are also several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the exceptional and loving care Dee received from the staff of Oakland Living Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 211 West Main Street, Forest City, North Carolina 28043. 


No formal services will be held at this time.
