Donald Ray Morrow, Sr.

Donald Ray Morrow, Sr. age 85 of Forest City died Friday, April 30, 2021 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born March 16, 1936, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, he was one of six children of the late Michael Hoke Morrow, Sr. and Betty Proctor Morrow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Michael “Whitey” Morrow, Charles “Heavy” Morrow and Eugene “Bookie” Morrow as well as his sister Vivian Hamrick.

Don was widely known for his great love of golf, and after owning a brick mason business, he felt blessed to spend the next 33 years as the Pro at Forest City Golf Course. To him, it was a lifestyle, not a job, and he took great pleasure in spending seven days a week there. He loved to say “if you have a job like mine, you never work a day in your life,” which he meant wholeheartedly.

Don was also a friend to everyone and cherished his community. His family (perhaps the only thing he loved more than golf) could hardly get him to travel; he didn’t believe the sun would rise outside of Forest City. In town, you could often find him cruising Clay Street in one of his El Caminos (odometer reading no less than 200,000 miles), as they were all “nice ‘uns” and couldn’t be passed up. If you needed a helping hand, all you had to do was ask Don. If he had it, he would give it, no matter what time of day or night.

Surviving is his wife of twenty-two years, Kaye Jackson Morrow of Forest City; son, Donald (Donnie) Ray Morrow, Jr. of  Spindale; daughter, Sherry Morrow Jolly (Roger) of Forest City and Joni Williams (Rodney) of Greenville, SC; a brother RH (Romeo) Morrow of Little Rock, AR; a sister, Jackie Hutchins of Forest City; daughter-in-law Cynthia Morrow; grandchildren Mandy Sims (Nathan), Tripp Morrow (Cary), Courtney Stone (Chris), Rilee Williams, Harper Williams and Sydney Williams; great-grandchildren Tyler Sims, Caroline Sims, Sawyer Sims, and Brinley Stone.

A funeral service will be held Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Florence Baptist Church officiated by David Cox. Interment will be private for the family.
