Don McMahan

Franklin Donald “Don” McMahan, age 81 of Mooresboro, North Carolina died Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills after battling a lengthy illness.

He was a native of Rutherford County and a son of the late J. L. and Beatrice Freeman McMahan. Don was a graduate of Rutherfordton-Spindale High School in the Class of 1959. 

He retired from McLean Trucking Company where he was a truck driver. He went on to work by his wife’s side in their business, House of Awards in Forest City. Don was a child of God and a Baptist. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves, an avid horse lover, and could dance all night long without coming up for air.

He was preceded in death by his son, Donald McMahan, Jr. and his sister, Barbara McMahan Goode.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Eula (Pete) Lancaster McMahan, his daughters, Judy Lancaster Smith and husband Calvin (Skip) Smith of Spartanburg, SC, and Kristy Lancaster Carlisle and husband Shane Carlisle of Mooresboro, his granddaughter, Jessica (Jesse) Smith Hayes and husband Kyle Hayes, his grandsons, Mason Smith, Cutler Shaw, and Tristan Carlisle, his granddaughter, Jetta Shaw and great-granddaughter, Makynlee (Mak) Hayes.

Children, Kim McMahan, Philip McMahan, and Tony McMahan also survive him.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, June 23, 2022, in The Padgett and King Chapel with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard on the lawn of the chapel. Interment will be private for the family at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the service at the mortuary.
