Dewey Botts Obituary
Dewey Botts also lovingly known by his family as "Poppy" entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of Claude and Darcus Botts of Greenwood, SC. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frances Stennett and his son-in-law, Jay Huntley.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Frances Wease Botts, his son, Michael Botts and wife, Denise of Gaffney his daughter, Cathy Huntley of Wilmington, and sister, Norma Doolittle. Dewey was especially proud of his seven grandchildren, Travis Botts (Kassidy), Trey Huntley (Kimberly), Paige Scruggs (Kyle), Morgan Carowan (Andy), Chase Botts (Reid), Ashley Toney (Jim), and Haley Gentry (Kurt).
Seven adorable great grandchildren who he loved spending time with and brought him great joy include Zayla, Zanna, Cheyanne, Charlie, Logan, and Boone. He is also survived by a nephew, Tim Doolittle.
Dewey served in the United States Air Force as a clerk for Airplane Dispatch where he served for several years and returned to his hometown and married the love of his life and later moved to Mooresboro, NC. He was a plant manager for Peelers Rug Company and also ran a side business of his own making rugs. He was a hard worker, who loved what he did and those he worked with.
Dewey was a devout Christian and dedicated member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He had a strong love for the Lord and loved to share his faith with others. Dewey enjoyed reading his Bible, working in his woodshop and in his yard but he especially loved spending time with his family and attending sporting events to support his grandchildren traveling near and far to watch them.
The most important thing in honoring Poppy's memory is to keep his memory from fading through generations by sharing stories and memories of this great man. A man whose smile could light up any room! His love for his family, friends and the Lord will never be forgotten and whose legacy will live forever in the lives of those who knew this wonderful man.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Hicks Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Raymond Byrd, Reverend Ad Hopper and Reverend Brian Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o'clock on Sunday at the church prior to the service.
The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
