David Wayne Settlemyre, age 83 of Inman, South Carolina died Friday, May 9, 2025.  David was born on March 25, 1942, in Rutherford County and was the son of the late Frank Lee Settlemyre and Vannie Florence Haynes Settlemyre. 

David grew up in Forest City and was a graduate of Cool Springs High School.  He attended Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.   He was a former member of Florence Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, taught in the Sunday School and the Royal Ambassadors.  Since living in Inman, he and his wife have been members of First Baptist Church of Boiling Springs, South Carolina.

David began his teaching career at East Rutherford High School where he taught Chemistry and Biology for several years until moving to the private sector.  He worked as a training manager for Milliken Company at Golden Valley until the plant closed and then worked as a chemist for Chase Brass which later became Metals of America where he retired.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy Y. Settlemyre of the home, his sons, Jeffrey Wayne Settlemyre and wife Laurie of Spartanburg, David Gregory Settlemyre and wife Kelly of Rutherfordton, his sisters, Amelia S. Taylor of Spartanburg, and Dorothy S. Buckner of Forest City.  There are five grandchildren, Katie, Josh, Maddie, Landon, and Connor as well as four great-grandchildren, Billy, Johnny, Mable, and Ervin.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Clegg Taylor and Reverend Kelly Settlemyre officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o’clock prior to the service at the mortuary.
