Paul David “Dave” Toney, age 76, of Forest City, died Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, at his home. Dave, as he was known, was born on July 21, 1944 in Rutherford County and was the son of the late T. B. and Maude Holland Toney.
Dave was a graduate of Chase High School, and attended Pfeiffer University, the University of South Carolina at Columbia, and finally Appalachian State University, where he received his Master's Degree. Dave worked as a Vocational Case Management Specialist for Genex Services. He also served his country honorably in the United States Air Force.
He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Forest City, where he served on various church committees, was a member of the Choir, the Methodist Men, a former Sunday school teacher, and he enjoyed playing on the former church softball team.
In civic life, he was a former member of the Forest City Kiwanis Club as well as the Chase Lions Club, where he enjoyed helping others in the community. He was a current member of the Peachtree Racquet Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, O. Sidney Toney and Donald Grayson Toney.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judith H. “Judy” Toney of the home, his daughters, Holly Toney Bridges and husband Josh of Forest City, Amanda Toney Bennett and husband Russ of Ellenboro, and Sally Toney Raya and husband Stephen of Ft. Gordon, Georgia. There are nine grandchildren, Alyssa Toney, Devin Davis, Cade Davis, Kristin Wells, Austin Bridges, Jenna Bennett, Harper Bennett, Addison Raya, and Sawyer Raya. There is also one great-grandchild, Oliver Wells.
A memorial service will be held at 4 o'clock on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in the First United Methodist Church of Forest City with Reverend Faye Herbin officiating. Military honors on the church lawn will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard following the memorial service. The family will receive friends after military honors also on the front lawn of the church. Masks and social distancing will be observed for the safety of those attending. Inurnment of his ashes will be private for the family in the church columbarium.
