Clyde McCoy Vickers, age 83 of Forest City, died Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Fairhaven of Forest City. Clyde was born on July 7, 1938, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late James Robert Vickers and Grace Scoggins Vickers. He was the former owner of Spindale Farm and Garden Center. He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Rutherfordton where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Choir and Men’s Chorus, a Sunday School Teacher, Training Union Director, and various church committees over the years.
Clyde was a graduate of R-S Central High School, was a member of the North Carolina Army National Guard and an avid supporter of the UNC Tarheels.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bobbie Harris Vickers of the home, his daughters, Pamela Dunaway, and husband Terry of Rutherfordton, Melita Wilson and husband Mike of Rutherfordton, and his brother, Cecil Vickers, and wife Mary Helen of Forest City. There are also three grandchildren, Heather Morgan, Jessica Osteen, Kaylee Wilson, and three great-grandchildren, Madison Morgan, Dillion Morgan, and Silas Osteen.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 o’clock Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Second Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Keith Stephenson and Reverend Brandon Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 on Thursday in the Sanctuary at Second Baptist Church.
