Charles Glen Toms, Jr, age 81 of Forest City, died April 15, 2020 at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills. Charles was born January 30, 1939 in Goldsboro, North Carolina and was a son of the late Charles Glen Toms, Sr, and Mary Emma King Toms. He worked for Liquid Air which later became Aire Liquid in Plant Production where he retired. Prior to that, he was a Forest City Police Officer for several years.
Charles was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and attended Mars Hill College. After a year at Mars Hill College, he entered the United States Air Force and served his country honorably.
He was a faithful member of Florence Baptist Church where he was a member of the Choir, was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the Virgil Webb Sunday School Class and was active in the Senior Adult Group. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Toms.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Shytle Toms of the home, his sons, Keith Toms of Forest City, Kris Toms and wife Jolee of Belmont, brother, Warren Toms and wife Sandra of Forest City, daughter-in-law, Vickie Burton of Forest City as well as his grandchildren, Rocky, Kevin, and Kelly Gilliam, Kristin, Alyssa, Kaylee, and Kaleb, and great-grandchildren, Dawson, Evan, Jayda, and Emilia.
Calling hours will be from 2 until 5 o’clock Friday in The Padgett and King Chapel for those that wish to pay their respects. A private funeral service will be held in the chapel for his family with Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Interment will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
