Carolyn Payne Pruett, age 83 of Forest City died Friday, April 29, 2022, at Hospice of The Carolina Foothills. She was born on October 24, 1938, in Greensboro, North Carolina and grew up in Burlington. Carolyn was a daughter of the late Murray and Gene Perry Payne of Burlington.
She was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Bostic where she served as organist for five years and she also served as organist at Main Street Baptist Church in Spindale for five years. Carolyn worked in the office of A&E Plastics for more than 21 years until her retirement in 2001.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Hugh Hopper, Sr, and John H. Pruett.
Survivors include her sons, Edwin Murray Benfield and wife Anita of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Craig Gene Benfield and wife Tina of Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Three grandsons, Thomas Clinton Benfield of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Bransom Benfield of Forest City, and Brandon Benfield of Linden, Texas and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Frashier officiating. Interment will follow at Tanners Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o’clock Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church.
