Carolyn Lawson Newman age 87 of Spartanburg, South Carolina, a former resident of Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina died Friday, January 9, 2026, in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Inman after an extended illness.
Born May 25, 1938, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, she was the seventh of eight children of the late James Victor Lawson and Mary Farmer Lawson. She was a 1956 graduate of Pauline High School and was a lifelong Baptist. One of Carolyn’s greatest enjoyments in life was Ballroom Dancing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three children, Selena Rose Videtto in 1964, Henry Clinton Videtto III in 2009 and Melissa Videtto Dice in 2011, She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Kathleen L. White, Thelma L. Sceals, Gladys L. Quinn, Lottie L. From, Frances L. Roper, and a brother, James Dupre Lawson,
Surviving is a sister, Linda Lawson Payne (James) of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a special niece and caregiver, Renee Roper Hammett (Dean) of Moore, South Carolina; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 2’o’clock at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg with the Reverend Kermit Morris officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carolyn’s memory to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, Post Office Box 461, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29304.
