Robert Bradley “Brad” Causby, age 61 of Rutherfordton, died Monday, December 9, 2024. Brad was born on December 6, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois and was the son of Johnny Causby and the late Martha Jo Bradley.
Brad grew up in Forest City and was a graduate of East Rutherford High School in the Class of 1981. While a student at East Rutherford, he was involved in school activities and played on the football team. He went to attend Azusa Pacific College where he also played football. Brads passion for football and education lead him to enroll at USC Upstate where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. His dedication to sports and education enabled him to be a positive influence in the lives of many students and players over his teaching career.
After graduation, he taught Physical Education in the Rutherford County Schools as well as coaching football, golf, baseball and basketball. He served as an assistant coach for the East Rutherford High School football team, served for five years as Head Coach for the football team at Chase High School, and for six years he was on the coaching staff at Shelby High School. Brad was also a member of Life Stream Church in Chesnee, South Carolina. He is also fondly remembered for his time working for both WBBO and WAGY radio stations.
In addition to his mother, Martha Jo Bradley, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Christopher Brent Ammons.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Radford Causby of the home, his father, Johnny Causby and wife Carolyn of Winder, Georgia, his daughters, Alex Causby of Moore, South Carolina and Diamond Nicole Ammons of Rutherfordton, his brothers, Dennis Causby of Forest City and Kevin Causby and wife Kim of Georgia, as well as three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brendan, and Nova.
A memorial service will be held at 4 o’clock on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church of Forest City with the Reverend David Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary from 2:30 until 3:45 prior to the service. Former coaches and players will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Carlos Watkins Youth Football Camp, 178 Ferry Road, Forest City, North Carolina 28043.
