Billy Moore Obituary

Billy Oliver Moore, age 85 of Cliffside, North Carolina died Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City.   Billy was born on March 11, 1938 in Loachapoka, Alabama; he was a son of the late Seaf and Johnny Mae Murphy Moore.

His career was spent moving the earth as grading superintendent with projects including launchpads at Kennedy Space Station, Cliffside Steam Station Unit 5,  Interstate 85 and many others up until his retirement.  In addition to earthmoving, he and his late wife owned and operated Bea’s Family Restaurant in Cliffside, North Carolina.

His true southern-style cooking was excellent, and it didn’t matter if it was just him eating, typically he cooked enough to serve an entire restaurant.   He had a love for hams, specifically Lay’s Cloverleaf Ham which aren’t easily found these days so in recent years they arrived via UPS from the company.  His thumb was green and anything he touched grew big and beautiful including his clematis vines and bearded iris and his later years daylilies and roses with his grandson.  He was hard-headed, set in his ways yet soft-spoken and loved in his own way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Cook Moore, brothers Weldon, Quinton, Preston, Frazier, Wyndell, and Talmage Moore and his sister Mildred Darnell.

Surviving is his son; Billy Joe Moore and special friend Pam Painter of the home; his daughter Kelly Walker and husband Jeff of Mooresboro, North Carolina; his grandchildren Justin Moore and husband Clayton of Bostic, North Carolina; Hunter Walker and wife Tiffani of Mooresboro, North Carolina; Dillon Moore and wife Anna of Mooresboro, North Carolina; Kaitlin Morris and husband Zachary of Gaffney, South Carolina.   His great-grandchildren Cooper Moore, Adaleigh Moore, Cora Faye Walker, Gracie Walker, and Hudson Morris.   In addition, he is survived by his daughter-in-love Angie Pearson and husband Jerry who he trusted more than anyone else when it came to his care and well-being.

The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, February 26, 2024 at One o’clock in the afternoon in The Padgett & King Chapel.   Interment will immediately follow the service at Cliffside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from six until eight in the evening on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the mortuary.
