Betty J. Dodson Obituary

Betty Jean Dodson, age 84 of Ellenboro, died Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Atrium Health in Shelby.  Betty was born on April 23, 1940, in Shelby, North Carolina and was a daughter of the late Ernest and Nina Davis Beaver. 

Betty was a graduate of Polkville High School, and she worked in the cafeteria at Ellenboro School for 27 years until her retirement.  She was a faithful member of Corinth Baptist Church, where she served on various committees over the years, including the bereavement meal committee.  She enjoyed preparing and serving meals at the church as well as her volunteer work with the Ellenboro Senior Meal Site.      

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Scott Dodson in 2020 and her brother, E. J. Beaver.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Hansel C. Dodson of the home, her daughter, Donna Dodson Lowery and husband Keith of Ellenboro, and her sister, Lib Beaver Jackson of Polkville.  There are also two grandchildren, Jessica Boone and husband Jerrad, and Justin Lowery as well as three great-grandchildren, James Lowery,  Jennie Lowery, and Waylon Adams.

A service from the graveside will be held at 2 o’clock on Monday, May 13, 2024, in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Conner and the Reverend Ad Hopper officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
