Alton Radford Obituary

Alton Eugene “Al” Radford, age 83 of Forest City died Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg. Al was born on October 9, 1940, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Lonzo and Katie Wilkie Radford.

Al grew up in Rutherford County and was a graduate of Tri-High School. He was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church and was retired from Cone Mills where he was Weave Room Supervisor at the Haynes Plant.  Al loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  Together with Judy, his wife, and family members they enjoyed traveling across the United States. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest Radford, George Radford, Hubert Radford, James Radford and Leon Radford, an infant sister, Helen Radford, and his first wife, Charlene Wilson Radford.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judith Tate “Judy” Radford of the home, his daughters, Cathy  Toney and husband Alan of Sunshine, Angela Young and husband Greg of Mooresville, North Carolina, his brother, Steve Radford (Diane) of Mooresboro, North Carolina, and sister, Margaret Jolly of Spartanburg, South Carolina.  There are also four grandchildren, Alan Toney II and wife Mary Katherine, Alex Toney, Jacob Young, Matthew Young, and honorary grandchild, A.J. Parks.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock on Thursday, February 22, 2024 in the Bethany Baptist Church with the Reverend Lane Goff, Reverend Chris Fox and Reverend Alan Toney officiating.  Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1 o’clock until the hour of service.
