Allen Carlton, Jr Obituary

Allen A. Carlton, Jr., 89, passed away on May 5, 2021.  He was born in Fulton, KY and was the son of the late Allen A. Carlton, Sr. and Ora “Bobbie” Curtis Carlton.  Allen attended UNC-Chapel Hill and Lenoir Rhyne College.  He was a U S Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.  After serving in the U S Army, he returned home to work with his father at Home Finance and helped manage Carlton’s Used Cars and Trucks.  Allen later worked in finance in Charlotte with Peoples National Fund and Avco Delta.  While in Charlotte he started his own remodeling and aluminum siding business.  In the 1970’s, he bought his first Peterbuilt and when his son, Allen III, returned from U S Army service, they began a trucking business and ran trucks for the next thirty years.

Survivors include his son, Allen Carlton III of Forest City, NC; daughters, Alicia Henderson (David) of Hendersonville, NC, Karen Carlton-Park (Greg) of Forest City, NC, and Teri C. Whisnant of Forest City, NC; grandchildren, Michael Henderson (Kristina), Amber Henderson, Miranda Morales (Chris), Lucas Campbell (Kelly), Alexandra Dow (Josh), Cullen Park (Devin), Avery Carlton, Marty Silvers, Gayla Silvers, and Chelsea Rush; great grandchildren, Lili Henderson. Nate Henderson, Daniel Gooding, Carter Morales, Campbell Morales, Colt Campbell, Lanie Campbell, Eden Dow, Baby Dow, Henry Park, Hollis Park, Adelee Carlton, Jaiden Silvers, Devin Silvers, Azlyn Silvers, Makalyn Silvers, and Memphis Silvers .  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Cindy Carlton, and son-in-law, Kim Whisnant.

 

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon, Monday, May 10, 2021 in the Padgett & King Chapel with Mr. Greg Park officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from one until two o’clock Monday prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans Healing Farm, 19 Mahshie Ln, Hendersonville, NC 28739 or veteranshealingfarm.org.  The family will be at the home of his daughter, Teri Whisnant.  The Padgett & King Mortuary & Crematory is serving the Carlton family.  Online condolences may be made at www.padgettking.com.
