Yalma “Popeye” Anthony Holmes was born, March 3, 1933, in Kingston, Jamaica WI. The son of the late Ivy Blanch Addington, he passed away on April 9, 2018 at the Hospice House in Forest City. His favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
He was a jack of all trades and mastered them all as an entrepreneur, home improvement specialist and tailor by trade. He was a member of the Brooklyn Church of Christ prior to relocating to Forest City, NC, in 2004, and continued his work for the Lord at the Forest City Church of Christ where he served as one the leaders. He will always be remembered for his overwhelming love for Christ, his family, and his friends. Yalma was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Angela Holmes, two sisters-in-law, Peggy Simpson, Lillie Brooks, and a brother-in-law, Dean Brooks.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Cathy Ann Holmes, children, Delroy Alexander Holmes, Marlene Jennifer Holmes, Lamont Alexander Holmes and his wife Elizabeth, Ernell Simpson, and Tonya Simpson, three sisters-in-law, Rosa Johnson, Hazel (John) Hamilton, Deborah (Michael) Jones. There are a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will truly be missed but his legacy will live on forever.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, April 20, 2018, at The Padgett & King Chapel with Brother Jamel White officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 prior to the service in the main building. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 332, Forest City, NC 28043.
