Virginia Hardin Newton, 95, formerly of Forest City, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Oakland Living Center where she was a resident. She was a native of Rutherford County, born May 12, 1922. Mrs. Newton was the daughter of the late Jay Talmadge Hardin, Sr. and Mary Jo Reep Hardin and widow of the late Jack T. Newton, who died in 2005. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Forest City where she was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class, and was a graduate of Cool Springs High School. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Doris Donegan and Nellie Lemerond; and a brother, Jay T. Hardin, Jr.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

Graveside services will be held 2 pm Thursday, April 5, 2018 in the Cool Springs Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Neil Haynes officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakland Living Center Activity Fund, 704 Poors Ford Rd, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 or the General Fund of First UMC Forest City, 341 East Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
