Valiree Hawkins Obituary

Valiree Medford Hawkins, 93, died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Willow Ridge of Rutherfordton.  She was a native of Rutherford County, and a daughter of the late John Gordon Medford and Leona "Lonie" Greene Medford and widow of the late Lawrence Miller Hawkins.  Valiree retired from Alexander Mills and later worked as a designer for Water's Florist. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross stitching, being a floral designer and loved her flower garden.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Medford Padgett and husband Jennings, and Loretta Medford Luckadoo.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Hawkins and wife Debra Randolph Hawkins; daughters, Susan Hawkins Callahan and husband Michael, and Barbara Hawkins Wall and husband Jerry; a sister, Ruby Medford Martin who was the wife of the late Wilbur Martin; eight grandchildren, nineteen great- grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren. There are also numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held three o'clock Thursday, December 13, 2018 in the Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.  Interment will follow in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from two until three o'clock Thursday in the narthex of the sanctuary.  In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 S. Broadway Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
