Shirley Toney

ELLENBORO, NORTH CAROLINA

Shirley Babington Toney, age 87 of Ellenboro died Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the home of her daughter.  Shirley was born December 28, 1930 in Cleveland County and was the daughter of the late Grace Jones "Peggy" Doggett and William Davis Babington, Jr.  She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Forest City.   Shirley worked in purchasing for many years at Skyland Textiles and later retired from the cafeteria staff with the Rutherford County Schools. 

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Toney DeLane.

Survivors include  a son, Dane Toney of Ellenboro, a daughter, Lundy Toney Wright and her husband Wilbur of Ellenboro, her grandson, Stephen Sorrow, Jr. and wife Dixie as well as her faithful namesake and companion, Shirley Mosley Hampton of Forest City.  There are also three great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Pat Jobe officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 until 2 pm Wednesday prior to the service.
