Pauline Cash "Peggy" Gilbert, age 97 of Forest City died Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at White Oak Manor. She was a native of Spartanburg County, SC and a daughter of the late Theron and Bessie Stacy Cash. Peggy was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and Blanton's School Of Business. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Forest City where she had served on various committees including an active role in the luncheons for bereaved families in the church.
Peggy was an excellent cook and she enjoyed cooking and sharing food with her friends and neighbors. For many years, she had a newspaper column in the Daily Courier where she shared recipes weekly. She also volunteered in the soup kitchen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church . She retired from Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Smith, her second husband, Troy Gilbert, her daughter, Pam C. Gilbert as well as her brothers, Theron Cash, Jr., Joseph Cash, Harold Cash, and sisters, Mary Catherine Butler and Annette Cash Whitaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Patty Shelton and husband Morris of Bostic, son, Steve Gilbert and wife Betty of Ellenboro, grandchildren; Paige Shelton Moore of Horseshoe, NC, Jamie Shelton of Forest City, Emily Gilbert Jones of Gastonia, and Clint Gilbert of Forest City as well as nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will have visitation from 3 until 4:30 PM Saturday, October 26, 2019 in the Ladies Parlor at First Presbyterian Church in Forest City. Interment will be private for the family at Green Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
