Nancy Nichols Obituary

Nancy McDonald Nichols, age 75 of Forest City died Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Hospice House of Forest City.  Nancy was born August 4, 1943 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late K. T. and Vivian Nanney McDonald and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School in the Class of 1961.  Nancy went on to receive a BS Degree in Early Childhood education from Appalachian State University in 1965, a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Ed. at ASU in 1971 and her Ed. Specialist Degree also from ASU.  Nancy participated in the Principal Executive Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She worked her entire career in the Rutherford County School system as a teacher and later as principal of Forest Hunt Elementary School where she retired in 2001.  Nancy was named Principal of The Year and was recently inducted into the Rutherford County Schools Foundation Hall of Fame. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sibyl McDonald Grasfeder, her niece, Mimi Kelly, and step-son, John Nichols.

Survivors include her husband, R. C. (Nick) Nichols of the home, a brother, Russell T. McDonald and wife Doris of Rock Hill, SC, step-children, Wendy Anderson and husband Todd of Wilson, NC, granddaughter, Caroline Anderson of Wilson, nieces, Karen Whipple and husband Lance of Kennesaw, GA, Ginger Kelly and husband Brian of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gigi Siekkinen and husband Jim of Hood River, OR, seven great-nieces and nephews, Bradley, Caroline, Erin, Elyse, Erik, Jack, and Kate.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Setzer, Rev. Dr. George Thompson and Rev. Eric Yelton officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:15 until the hour of service in the Church Fellowship Hall, and following the memorial service in the sanctuary.  Nancy will be privately buried with her parents in the church cemetery.
