John William Maddry, PG CPG, age 71, of Rutherfordton, died Wednesday, October 3, 2018. A native of Richmond County, NC, he was the son of the late George Henry Maddry and Ruth Moss Maddry. John was a highly-skilled exploration geologist having worked for many mining companies throughout the world, including Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Swaziland, South Africa and the continental U.S. He has been published seven times in various professional journals. John served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a kind, considerate man who loved the outdoors, especially canoeing and hiking.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sarah Brigman Maddry, a son, Mica Maddry and daughter-in-law Meredith of Atlanta, GA and a daughter, Gia Maddry of Atlanta, GA.
The family plans to scatter John's ashes on November 24th at his family farm in Anson County, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N.
