Gilda Ivey Deck, age 92 of Green Creek died Friday, May 31, 2019 at White Oak Manor in Tryon where she was a resident. Gilda was born January 3, 1927 in Cumberland County, North Carolina and was a daughter of the late Herbert C. and Vilona Matthews Ivey.
She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was co-owner of Meadow Brook Golf Course. Gilda worked for 35 years with G. B. Harrill Insurance Agency where she retired in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Shell, and second husband, Carson H. Deck as well as a sister, Peggy Hawley.
Survivors include her children, Michael Shell, Toni S. Byers, Mary Deck, B.C. Deck, and William Deck. There are also eleven grandchildren, Zachary, Elliott, Samuel and Alexander Byers, Dee Dee Barnard, Crissy Ward, Thomas Deck, Morgan Deck, Logan Shell, Chase Shell, and Brandy Clawson as well as a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at New Hope United Methodist Church with Reverend Debbie Toney officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Monday, June 3, 2019 at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
