Edgar Spicer Obituary

James Edgar "Ed" Spicer, 76, of Forest City, died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at his home.

Born April 8, 1942 in Wilkes County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Link Spicer and Manie McCann Spicer. Ed received his B.S. and Master's Degrees in Agricultural Education from North Carolina State University and served as an Agriculture Teacher at Chase High School for 16 years prior to having an automobile accident in 1981.

A member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church, he faithfully served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, as well as on various committees. He was a member of the Chase Lions Club having served as President, Secretary, District Secretary and received the  Jack Stickley. Fellow Award for his service to Lions International. He was active in the Sandy Mush Volunteer Fire Department having served on the Board of Directors, served as a Rutherford County Commissioner for a four -year term, and was a founding member of the Rutherford County Cattleman's Association, as well as the Rutherford County Soil and Water Conservation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Albert Spicer.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Fay Lyon Spicer; a son, Douglas Edgar Spicer of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Teresa Spicer Karow and husband, Mark of Charlotte, NC and Susan Spicer Gantt and husband, Kevin of Hickory, NC; five grandchildren, Jackson Karow, Layton Gantt, Morgan Karow, Lauren Gantt and Elliott Gantt; two brothers, Jimmy Spicer and wife, Beverly of Asheville, NC and Joel Spicer and wife, Connie of Elkin, NC; a sister-in-law, Brenda Spicer of Elkin, NC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018 at three o'clock at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in the Church Sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorial contributions be made to Floyd's Creek Baptist Church, 2004 Chase High Road, Forest City, NC 28043, Chase High School FFA, 1603 Chase High Road, Forest City, NC 28043 or to the Chase Lions Club, 759 Harris-Henrietta Road, Forest City, NC 28043.
