Clarence Luther Campbell, age 80 of Forest City died Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Fairhaven of Forest City. Clarence was born September 16, 1937 in Spartanburg County and was a son of the late Wesley Earl Campbell and Virginia Powell Campbell. He was a graduate of Harris High School, a member of Florence Baptist Church and assisted in counting the weekly offering.
Clarence was an educator and taught Distributive Education for many years at East Rutherford High School and later moved to the Rutherford County Schools Administrative office where he retired as Vocational Director. He was a graduate of Fruitland Bible College and served as the pastor of Pacolet Hills Baptist Church in Landrum for five years. He was also a graduate of Appalachian State University and received his Masters in School Counseling from Western Carolina University. Clarence was also a former member of the Rutherford County School Board and was Head Contractor for Habitat for Humanity of Rutherford County.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Cynthia Wyatt Campbell of the home, a daughter, Elizabeth Campbell Suber and husband Lindsay of Gastonia, a brother, Rich Campbell and wife Jackie of Chapin, SC, three sisters, Becky Buchanan and husband Alvin of Forest City, Earlene Lancaster and husband Hix of Chesnee, SC, Cathy Campbell of Forest City, and the love of his life, a granddaughter, Eva Caroline Suber of Gastonia as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, August 25, 2018 in the Florence Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Visitation will follow in the church Narthex. Interment will be private for the family in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family plans to establish the Clarence L. Campbell Scholarship Fund and will announce the address at a later time.
