Boyce Harrill Obituary

R. Boyce Harrill, 88, of Bostic, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Forest City.  A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Samuel Crawford Harrill, Sr. and Eula Brooks Harrill and widower of Myrtice Hardin Harrill.  Boyce retired as Chief of the Legislative Digest Section of the General Accounting Office in Washington DC and was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was a graduate of American University and also attended George Washington University, was a very active member of Salem United Methodist Church, Bostic and a member of Kemper Macon Ware Masonic Lodge #64, A.F. & A.M. in Falls Church Virginia.  Boyce was very involved with Washburn 4-H and the Washburn Community Club.  In earlier years he helped teach Sunday school for mentally challenged children at Christ Church in Arlington, VA and later served as a volunteer at Bostic Elementary School. He and wife Myrtice were presented the award for Man and Woman of the Year for the NC Development Association and he was also the recipient of the Take Pride in America Award for his helping to beautify Washburn community through roadside clean up for many years.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Bobbi Jean Price of Bostic, and Patti Harrill-Sloan and husband Steve of Aptos, California; and a brother, Ronnie Harrill and wife Brenda of Ellenboro; grandsons, Cole Price and Austin Price; and a great grandson, Kaleb Price. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by siblings, Samuel C. Harrill, Jr., Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Harrill, Donald John Harrill, Fannie Ida Robbins, and Hazel H. Brown.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday, May 7, 2018  in the Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Burleson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard and masonic rites.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Sunday at the mortuary.  Memorials may be made to Salem UMC, P.O. Box 220, Bostic, NC 28018.
